Dbs System
Direct broadcast satellite, or DBS, is
also known as "Direct to Home" television, and is a relatively
new technology. DBS systems are commonly called "mini
dish" systems, as they require a much smaller dish than other
satellite systems. Most DBS systems use data streams to
transmit information to these dishes. If the channel is paid
for, the data stream is encrypted, but there are several free
to air channels that are available to anyone with the equipment
needed to receive them. The DBS system has been in use since
1991, but has only recently become digital, and many more
satellite tv channels are now available through it. It is
mainly focused on family TV, but there is a mixture available,
including some HDTV channels!
The DBS System is gaining in
popularity and it may not be long before it is the most popular
mode of acquiring more tv channels, as satellite is available
to anyone, even those who live in remote locations where cable
is not an option. The DBS system is also very easy to set up
and the small dishes of today are really no nuisance compared
to the enormous dishes that used to be required. A small
price to pay for a lot more tv channel selection if
you're an avid watcher.
